Hopworld devlog 7
June 25, 2026
Hopworld Pocket Edition had a soft launch on the mobile app stores. This devlog dives deeper into what to expect from the mobile game version.
It has been almost a year since the last devlog. Hopworld in general got some new features, but I will keep those for another devlog. Meanwhile I released a premium version called Hopworld Pocket Edition on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. No worries: the itch.io web version will not be taken down and in time there will also be a desktop premium version.
Let's have a look where Hopworld Pocket Edition is different from the web version.
Gameplay tweaks
Three items from the settings menu are now only added to the premium mobile version and are no longer available in the web version. They allow for more tailored or advanced game play experiences, so it makes sense to only have them as premium features. The features are:
- Perma Death
- Spoil Items
- Spoil Maps
As for Perma Death this is now disabled everywhere by default and can only be enabled from the settings menu in the app version. Perma Death is kinda the hardcore mode of Hopworld. If you toggle it on while you have an empty seed, the whole game world will complelty regenerate each time you die and all inventory progress will be reset.
The other 2 features allow other experiences, where you only have to focus on finding maps or only have to focus on finding powerups. If you played the game a couple of times, I can imagine you want to unlock the powerups and just have fun exploring other worlds.

On the left the web settings menu and on the right the app settings menu.
Hop Pips
Maybe you already noticed the strange green substance in the inventory.

It is the fifteenth item which finally makes the inventory grid complete. If I want to develop new items I will have to make the inventory grid bigger.
Hop pips are already in your inventory from the start of the game. In the web version they actually don't do anything. They just display a message "Not Premium Hop Pips!". So indeed they are a Premium feature...
Hop pips will only do something when you are a ghost. If you are a ghost and you open the inventory and consume some Hop pips, you will instantly unghost. So It is an easier way to continue playing when you died and became a ghost. You can also use this to cheat, but I leave that up to you to figure out.
Wrap up
That is all I have for this devlog. I hope this answers some questions about the app versions. Maybe what I also forgot is when you buy it as an app: you can always play it offline, you will always have a small Hopworld in your pocket. Kinda obvious, but also kinda neat, isn't it?
